Our mission is to promote seizure first-aid, epilepsy awareness and empower those who face challenges with this disorder. Through community outreach, mentorship, and education, we will continue to educate others about epilepsy.
Founder
My name is Tia Teamer and I am a 24 year old, native New Orleanian
In 2009, at the age of 13, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. As a teenager, I discovered that epilepsy was misunderstood and many of my peers were not aware of what to do if I had a seizure. After a decade of living with my disorder, I created Project Purple Butterfly.
History
Project Purple Butterfly was created in 2019 by Tia Teamer who was diagnosed at the age of 13. Inspired by a mentorship to a young girl with epilepsy who struggled with epilepsy and her own challenged she faced, Tia began Project Purple Butterfly to promote seizure first-aid, break the stigma associated with seizures, and support those with epilepsy and their caregivers.
